How it tastes

In the glass

Elegant and layered Barbaresco with rose petal, wild red cherry, and cool mineral nuance.

Profile

Body LightFull
Acidity SoftBright
Grip SilkyGrippy
Wild side CleanFunky

Nose

Rose petal, wild red cherry, hints of dried herb, deeper echoes of spice.

Palate

Vibrant, defining acidity gives lift and forward motion. Fine, polished tannins support the mid-palate without overt weight. Earthy undertones and whisper of forest floor complement the fruit, reflecting chalky marl and clay soils.

Finish

Persistent and poised, capturing expressive Nebbiolo character and the subtle imprint of hillside terroir.

“A principal Barbaresco aged around three years in old oak and six months in porcelain.”

How to serve

Getting the best out of it

Temperature

Cellar temperature, never warm. Open it an hour ahead and give it air; too warm and the alcohol takes over.

Air

A lot. Decant it an hour before, or open it two hours ahead: air is what tames young tannin, and the layers come apart, each one distinct. No decanter? Pour it into a jug, then back into the bottle.

When to drink

Ready now, and it will keep and improve for several years, as long as the freshness holds.

Once open

Years in large wood trained it to slow contact with oxygen: day two is often rounder than day one. Cork in, cool place, or fridge and out 30 minutes before. 3–4 days.

How to pair it

This is a structured red

Tannin loves protein and fat: they soften each other. The bigger the wine, the heartier the dish.

Match

Flavours that echo the wine.

  • Red meat (steak, roast beef)
  • Slow-cooked stews and braises
  • Mushrooms and truffle
  • Game (venison, wild boar)

Contrast

Opposites that make each other better.

  • Fatty cuts (ribeye, short rib)
  • Duck and goose
  • Rich meat sauces (ragù)

Careful with

Combinations that flatten the wine.

  • Fish
  • Very spicy food
  • Artichokes and asparagus

Terroir & winemaking

From the vineyard to the bottle

Nebbiolo from small hillside parcels around Bricco di Neive in Barbaresco, Piemonte, grown on chalky marl and clay-infused soils.

Vines
100% Nebbiolo destemmed from parcels lending structure and fine mineral threads.
Soils
Chalky marl and clay, contributing pronounced mineral character.
Farming
Low-intervention viticulture with deep commitment to natural expression.
Cellar
Approximately four weeks of maceration, spontaneous fermentation in concrete with indigenous yeasts, followed by around three years in old oak barrels and approximately six months in porcelain vessels.
Additions
Minimal to no added sulphites, no fining, no filtration.

Where it's from · Piemonte, Italy

BRICCO DI NEIVE

Bricco di Neive is a small cru on the northeastern edge of Barbaresco, sitting at moderate altitude above the Tanaro valley. The soils here are a mix of calcareous marl, clay, and sandstone — a layered, heterogeneous geology that Fabio, with his geologist's eye, reads with unusual precision. It is terrain that gives Nebbiolo both elegance and structural grip, and that shows its complexity slowly, over time.

Fabio Gea

Geologist turned vigneron, making tiny-batch Barbaresco wines that answer to no one

Fabio Gea spent his early career as a geologist — reading soils, mapping rock strata, understanding land from the ground up. That training didn't take him away from wine; it just delayed his return. In 2010, he came back to Neive to take over the small vineyard parcels his grandfather Nòtu had once tended, plots that had been left largely to themselves for years.

“Maybe it is poetry. Or maybe it’s my own mental masturbation. But I wanted to see.”

Good to know

Questions we get a lot

Is this a natural wine?

All our wines come from small growers who farm organically or biodynamically and keep intervention in the cellar to a minimum: native yeasts, little or no added sulphites. Every producer has their own approach; the details are in “From the vineyard to the bottle” above.

Why is it a bit cloudy, or is there sediment?

Many of our wines are bottled unfiltered. A light haze or some sediment is natural and harmless: stand the bottle upright for a few hours and pour gently.

How long does it keep once open?

It depends on the wine (see “Once open” above). As a rule: cork back in and keep it in the fridge, reds included.

When will my order arrive?

We ship Tuesday to Saturday, usually right away. In Germany delivery takes 2–3 working days; rates for every country are on our shipping page.

Can I pick up in Berlin?

Yes. Choose pickup at checkout and collect your order at our shop in Berlin.
