Dark, robust reds, rich in flavours and smooth in acid and tannins. One of the fine red varietals in the world, Syrah is also very trendy among sommeliers, with its black olive / peppery notes. Its high-pitched acid makes it appear lighter than it is.

Syrah can blossom after seven or ten years of bottle ageing, showing aromas of dried truffle, porcini, dried leaves and seductive red currant leaves.

Syrah was once big and jammy, but young winemakers are now moving to a relatively lighter style with more spice-driven wines and layered flavours.
