HOW THEY GOT HERE

Domaine Les Justices was born in 2018 in the Loire Valley when Sophie and Clément Maire‑Kurdziel, both oenology graduates from Montpellier, found an old massal‑selection Cabernet Franc vineyard planted in 1947 at the lieu‑dit Les Justices (Indre‑et‑Loire).
Drawn to that parcel’s quality and character, they committed to organic farming and minimal winemaking interventions to let the terroir speak clearly through the wines.

In 2019 they added grapes from Boutifolle in Saumur‑Champigny (Cabernet Franc & Cabernet Sauvignon) to make Petite Folle, and in 2020–2021 expanded their project to include parcels in Turquant and Saint‑Cyr‑en‑Bourg, yielding new cuvées such as a natural pétillant rosé (Justices Sauvages), a crisp Chenin Blanc (Juste) and a fresh Saumur‑Champigny red called La Bamboche.

They ferment with indigenous yeasts, hand‑harvested fruit, minimal technology and low SO₂, and vinify plot by plot to preserve nuance and old‑vine intensity.

Where The Wine Is Born

The wines are born in and around Saumur‑Champigny, part of the Loire Valley’s classic red wine territory, where Cabernet Franc thrives on limestone, clay and flint‑influenced soils.

Some cuvées also come from parcels around Turquant and Saint‑Cyr‑en‑Bourg, where siliceous and calcareous soils lend freshness and mineral clarity to the wines.
This terroir — shaped by the river Loire’s moderating influence and varied soil types — gives both freshness and structural energy, whether in fresh Chenin wines or expressive Cabernet Franc reds.

FOR THE NERDS

Domaine Les Justices is a very young, organic natural wine project started in 2018 by Sophie and Clément Maire‑Kurdziel, oenologists who chose to make wine in the Loire after years of global staging experience.
Their first vineyard was a small old‑vine Cabernet Franc plantation (1947) in a lieu‑dit called Les Justices, which sets the tone for their emphasis on old plant material and respect for terroir.

Now farming about 5 ha (2 ha owned, 3 ha rented from organic growers), they work across parcels in Chinon, Turquant, Saint‑Cyr‑en‑Bourg and Saumur‑Champigny, vinifying plot by plot to capture soil identity.

Winemaking features hand harvest, indigenous yeast fermentations, gentle extractions and élevage in neutral vessels or aged barrels with very low sulphur, all aimed at clarity, balance and ethereal texture. Their range spans natural reds, fresh whites, pétillants and creative blends that express both place and vintage vividly.

“Hand‑made wines that are honest reflections of old vines and diverse Loire terroirs.”
