HOW THEY GOT HERE
Domaine de l’R was born out of a desire to make Loire Cabernet Franc that speaks directly of place rather than technique. The project was initiated by growers rooted in the region’s viticultural traditions, yet open to methods that foreground site expression.
Rather than follow the well-worn path of extraction and concentration, the team chose to emphasize natural ripeness, canopy balance, and soil influence. Vineyard work became the first line of expression — pruning, leaf work, and fruit thinning are all applied with attention to phenolic timing and energy balance.
In the cellar, the priority is to preserve what the vineyard offers. Indigenous yeasts ferment spontaneously. Extraction is measured to maintain finesse and aromatic lift. Oak, when used, is older and neutral — a vessel for structural refinement, not flavor imposition. The result is Cabernet Franc that is composed, transparent, and site-focused rather than rhetorical.
