HOW THEY GOT HERE

Domaine de l’Enchantoir sits in Le Puy-Notre-Dame, a historic wine-growing village in the Saumur region where vineyards have thrived for centuries.
The estate is truly family-run, with Jean-Michel and Fabienne Brunet joined by their daughter Amandine (and others) working the 15 hectares of vineyards organically to express the richness of the terroir.

In 2016, the domaine achieved Ecocert organic certification, reflecting a long-standing commitment to vineyard health and ecological balance.

Their vines — Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Franc — are traditional Saumur varieties and are farmed with respect for soil, biodiversity, and natural rhythms, continuing a lineage of local grape growing while bringing renewed energy and precision to the wines.

Where The Wine Is Born

The wines of Domaine de l’Enchantoir are born around Saumur Puy-Notre-Dame, a distinguished subregion of the greater Saumur appellation — known for its complex clay-limestone and tuffeau soils, hillside exposure, and proximity to the Loire river.

Puy-Notre-Dame’s terroir supports Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc with both structural depth and aromatic vibrancy, while the nearby troglodyte cellars carved into limestone provide natural temperature-stable cellaring that benefits muscular reds and lively whites alike.

The cooler Atlantic-influenced climate, combined with biodynamic-oriented vineyard work, preserves freshness and energy in the wines — a hallmark of Saumur’s identity.

FOR THE NERDS

Domaine de l’Enchantoir’s 15 hectares encircle its historic 19th-century home and buildings in Le Puy-Notre-Dame, where traditionally cultivated vines of Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Franc flourish.

The estate has been farmed organically since at least 2016 (Ecocert certified), with grass kept between the rows to encourage biodiversity and minimal disturbance of the soil.

Their winemaking follows a low-intervention philosophy: grapes are hand-harvested, sorted, and vinified with natural yeasts and minimal additions, with many cuvées aged quietly in troglodyte cellars carved into the soft limestone beneath the property.
The red wines are often made primarily from Cabernet Franc, including Saumur Puy-Notre-Dame reds that show both fruit energy and structural depth, while the whites — typically Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay — combine freshness, aromatic nuance, and poise.

The family’s approach blends traditional terroir respect with contemporary organic techniques, resulting in wines that feel alive, terroir-driven, and expressive, whether enjoyed fresh or with a bit of age.

“Our wines tell the story of this land — from vine to troglodyte cellar to bottle.”
