HOW HE GOT HERE

Geoffrey Delouvin oversees the family estate in the Vallée de la Marne, representing the 11th generation of Delouvin winegrowers, carrying forward centuries of knowledge and deep connection to the land.
The estate’s vineyards — roughly 7 hectares of mostly old vines — are planted across 36 distinct parcels with varied soils that include chalk, clay, and sands, all contributing to the complexity of his Champagnes.

Driven by a passion for Pinot Meunier and a desire to articulate the individuality of each plot, Geoffrey tends his vines meticulously to bring out the unique character of every parcel. He produces two main lines: the Delouvin Nowack range (traditional, fresh, fruit‑driven styles) and the Famille Delouvin collection, which draws inspiration from Burgundy with wild‑yeast fermentations and extended oak or barrel maturation for select cuvées.

His commitment to respecting life and land — eschewing herbicides and prioritizing biodiversity — is part of how he marries tradition with innovation, winning recognition such as the ‘Jeunes Talents du Champagne’ award in 2018 for his Pinot‑focused work.

Where The Wine Is Born

Geoffrey’s vineyards sit in the Vallée de la Marne, centered around the village of Vandières — a highly regarded terroir for Pinot Meunier within Champagne.

The slopes here are mostly south/southeast‑facing, planted on a patchwork of chalk, clay, marl, and sand. This mosaic of soils gives his wines striking varietal expression and minerality, with old vines adding depth and texture.

The Marne’s microclimate brings cool nights and gentle diurnal swings that preserve freshness and nuance, while the diverse terrain allows Geoffrey to craft a wide spectrum of styles — from fruit‑driven solera blends to terroir‑specific single‑parcel expressions.

FOR THE NERDS

Geoffrey Delouvin is the 10th generation vigneron of Famille Delouvin. His 7-hectare estate sits exclusively on the Cru de Vandières, in the heart of the Marne Valley, where the parcels — mostly old vines — are planted on south / southeast‑facing slopes across a mosaic of soils: argilo-limestone, flush chalk, sand, and clay. The vineyard is dominated by Pinot Meunier, to which the family dedicates exceptional care and devotion.

In the vineyard, pragmatism meets experience. Each plot is unique, and the knowledge passed down through ten generations of Delouvin winemakers guides every decision. Respect for the terroir and soils is paramount: no herbicides, no deep plowing, no insecticides, no anti-rot treatments, and no chemical fertilizers — only composted manure to nourish the soil’s microbiology. Biodiversity and old-vine preservation are carefully maintained through mass selection, ensuring the estate’s heritage thrives in every bottle.

In the cellar, Geoffrey follows a non-interventionist approach. Malolactic fermentation is neither forced nor blocked, and sulfur doses are kept under 35 mg/L. The Non-Millésimés draw depth and consistency from a Soléra system initiated in 1992, blending each harvest to maintain harmony and expression. Disgorgement is done by hand, with homemade liqueurs for the Bruts and dosage precisely matched for the Natures.

This meticulous attention to vineyard and cellar translates into wines that are expressive, site-driven, and unmistakably Delouvin. Every bottle reflects history, place, and care, where the skill of the vigneron and the voice of the terroir come together seamlessly. Beyond the technical mastery, Geoffrey’s passion, humility, and curiosity shine through, making him not just a winemaker, but a true artisan of Champagne.

“Each plot speaks for itself, and my job is to listen carefully, letting the soil and vines guide every decision in the vineyard and cellar.”
